- And then they get to talking and it turns out that she’s the most interesting person he’s ever met because she’s so interesting that she isn’t interesting, which makes her so uninteresting, the only uninteresting person he’s ever met, that it makes her special. It’s like a paradox. Hermeneutic circles and that stuff. - That trips me out…

Talmud Study now Mandatory in South Korea →
Close to 50 million people live in South Korea, and everyone learns Gemara (Talmud) in school. “We tried to understand why the Jews are geniuses, and we came to the conclusion that it is because they study Talmud,” said the Korean ambassador to Israel. And this is how “Rav Papa” became a more well known scholar in Korea than in Israel. What American Jewry can’t do for...

Creating Hypothetical Situations In Order to Prove...
I mean, if I was a doctor and I wanted to tell you that you had a bad diagnosis, I wouldn’t say, “Well, there are two people walking down the street and the one says to the other, ‘Imagine we’re on a pirate ship and the first mate is talking to the captain’s parrot. The first mate says, “Boy I hope we don’t get shipwrecked!” and the parrot says,...

a room with an insane view
sheilamcclear: “There are countless ways to go crazy in New York City—permanently or briefly, bloodily or peacefully, comically or horribly—but those among us who have ever wondered if our own names might one day be called in that unlucky lottery are generally aware of a key distinction: You can lose it privately or you can lose it publicly… If you’re in Manhattan and you happen to be...

Let’s start with Video 1 and chart the changes.  — Video 1. Brooklyn apartment: The panda was invited to this man’s apartment to help him relieve stress. The panda is gladly treated...

NYC Half-Marathon 2011: Year of the Wristband
awpoops: Good race this year. I didn’t run my best race, but I didn’t run my worst. This was a pleasant surprise given that I drank well and slept poorly the night before. I ran a time of 1:28:58, with negative splits for the second half, always a sign of a smart run. In fact, my last 5K was actually one of my faster 5Ks, just a tad over 20:00. I should probably mention that I don’t like 5Ks. ...
