We hope you consider donating to non-profit theater. This comes from YM’s own 99…
Hi everyone. Some of you know from mailings in the past year that I’ve joined the board of a small (emerging is the term we prefer) theatre company. We are currently performing Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing in parks that are a little off the beaten path (for Manhattanites, or those who come to think of theatre and park to meaning Central Park inevitably).
We’re having a benefit performance this Thursday. Likely you received a mass mailing in the past couple days. Your support of this would be much appreciated. We are only looking to sell 60-75 tickets. Even if you can’t come, purchasing a ticket, or a donation would be much appreciated.
Details on the benefit are here:

As a non-profit, donations are tax deductible, and as a struggling start-up, please understand that everyone involved in this effort is working strictly on a volunteer basis. A great deal of energy has been invested in a mission we think is valid and rewarding.
Our most recent performance (Sunday, in Astoria Park) had nearly 150 people. At Pelham Bay Park, our first performance, at one point had nearly 40 kids under the age of 10, watching a solid hour of Shakespeare, completely rapt. It’s our commitment to go out into the neighborhoods where arts aren’t as accessible, that makes sights like this so gratifying.
If this fund raising is successful, we hope to keep the cast together for a couple weeks longer to follow up with our educational program. This will class-length sessions featuring some scenes from the play along teacher-led Q&A. These programs do provide stipends, so we will be able to in a position to remunerate the actors, but the program coordination itself has costs (transportation, possibly bringing in some specialist lecturers).
I hope to see you there.
