In one of the most watched wagers of this election, Lockhart Steele predicted in March ‘08 that in a McCain/Obama match-up, McCain wouldn’t win more than 6 states. Eli Valley, who wants to make it very clear that he’s also a staunch Obama supporter, was willing to bet $50 that the outcome would be closer. As official results show, in defeat, McCain won more than 6 states.
When reached for comment, Steele offered, “I thought it would be an Obama landslide. I’m glad it was. In that spirit, it is my pleasure to Paypal Mr. Valley his winnings, unless he’d prefer for them to be donated to a charity selected by Andrew Krucoff.”
Valley volleyed, “I didn’t wanna mention it so soon, Lockhart — it would appear to be gloating, thus diminishing the “new era of American politics” we find ourselves in. As for Paypal, I don’t think my account is “certified” to receive funds. Anyway, now that you’ve mentioned “charity,” I guess I have to do it that way, lest Andrew publicly shame me forever. Does Islamic Jihad accept Paypal?”
It has now been suggested (right here, by me) that Steele make the donation to this Donors Choose project that hopes to bring music and art to a special education class in a high-need New York public school and give the students a sense of success, community, and enjoyment. While the bet was $50, perhaps Steele will consider funding the remaining cost of the project, a mere $110. We’ll let you know that outcome.
