Last night’s REM tribute was pretty amazing. The show at Carnegie Hall delivered with highlights from Bob Mould, The Feelies, Kimya Dawson and indie dance troupe Underthrust, Darius Rucker (dude fuckin’ killed “I Believe”), Glen Hansard, Keren Ann, Jolie Holland (yeah yeah, she’s hot), Marshall Crenshaw, Patti Smith (who forgot the lyrics at one point but if anyone can get away with it in that setting, it’s her) and of course Stipe/Buck/Mills came out and played the finale. The private after party at City Winery was a New York/Athens scene lovefest and most of the acts played again, usually 2 song sets of their own material. Who’s that above? The Feelies getting ready on stage with a very excited Jeff Mangum standing in front of me. (That sentence probably means nothing to anyone on Tumblr except Maura.)
